THE EMPEROR´S NEW CLOTHES

Franz Wassermann´s sculpture THE EMPEROR´S NEW CLOTHES. refers to a text of Hans Christian Andersen which has been published in “Fairy Tales Told for Children” in 1837. Visitors who enter the gallery space find themselves in front of a mirror. In its surface, the words THE EMPEROR´S NEW CLOTHES. have been etched. When rounding the sculpture, visitors discover a steel-tube chair which is supporting the mirror. When a visitor choses to sit down, the mirror rises slightly thereby transforming the sculpture into a throne. There “in the position of the emperor” the words etched into the mirror disappear out of sight.
