ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION OF ASYLUM SEEKERS
first published in 2002

The art project ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION OF ASYLUM SEEKERS addresses the criminalization of asylum seekers and refugees. In four project phases Franz Wassermann visits people who are kept in administrative detention, occupies a gallery and transforms a consecrated camping van into a mobile church to drives refugees from Italy to Germany. The catalogue ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION OF ASYLUM SEEKERS documents all four projects phases with a wide variety of photographs and sketches. Furthermore, the reactions on Wassermann´s interventions are presented with the help of newspaper articles, letters and E-Mails, among them feedback of Alois Kothgasser, former bishop of Innsbruck, and Silvia Eiblmayr, former director of the gallery Taxispalais Innsbruck.
