Memorial to the men and women who were victims of the persecution of homosexuals during the Nazi era

Listen to the wind and remember us! A Requiem in D Minor plays as the wind strikes the first names of the victims engraved on the wind chimes in the memorial.
The harmonious tones of the chimes in their rainbow colors, together with the black polished stone base, create a place of remembrance. To paraphrase the Hungarian writer György Konrád, a good memorial is not only a place to honor the dead. It can also be beautiful and invite people to linger with the deceased.

A 2.5 meter high sound sculpture in the form of a wind chime rises from a black base of polished stone. Nine sound tubes are grouped along an equilateral triangle, six of which float on steel tubes. Eight of the tubes are painted in the original colors of the rainbow flag. The ninth chime is made of highly polished stainless steel and reflects the surrounding park and its visitors* into the monument. In the center of the chime, a pendulum cord connects a black clapper to a reflective wind catcher. The first names of the murdered and persecuted are engraved on the wind catcher. When the circular mirror is set in motion by the wind, the black clapper strikes the rainbow-colored chimes. The result is a harmonious sequence of notes in D minor, whose melody commemorates the murdered people. The sculpture gives them a voice through its sound, which not only reminds the living of them, but also calls us to vigilance and warns us. In this way, the memorial not only honors the dead – it also serves as a memorial to the living.
