DEVOTIONAL IMAGES is based on the art project SCARS in which Franz Wassermann addressed sexualized violence against children and young adults. For SCARS, the artist asked people concerned to gift him personal objects which he integrated in an installation in public space. These objects are the main concern of the latter art piece DEVOTIONAL IMAGES. Here, the artist takes portrait like photos of the objects and prints them on carpet. The choice of carpet as the main medium of the piece thereby plays on the fact that 95 % of all cases of sexualized violence against children and young adults do not happen in public space but at home.
